LIBRARY: Literacy often begins with a love of reading stories. In the library we read (also in Spanish), tell stories, write our own books and even act out little tales. We also work on language skills, using our words, saying what we mean, and talking in front of the group. In the Pre-Kindergarten program the children will learn to write the alphabet using the Handwriting Without Tears program and they also learn the early phonic sounds. (Reading is so important that we have books in every room.)
CAFE AND SNACK/LUNCH TIMES: Having proper manners will help children throughout life. In Cafe (Half-Day) and at snack/lunch times (Full Day) we help the children remember to ask please and respond with thank you. We have a social time with our friends, learn to serve our own food and create self-help skills, pour our own juice and we even try new and different foods. We have a special cooking project once a month.
PLAYGROUNDS: Physically fit children are healthier for life and we devote much of our day to helping your child learn to enjoy large muscle activities. Running, climbing, jumping, throwing, pedaling, catching and digging are just of a few of the many activities we do outside. The climbers, bike trails, tricycles, grass areas, sandboxes and various loose toys are all geared to encourage your child to make the most of outside time.
